Scale
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup salted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
- 1 1/2 to 2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave on high for 1 minute, then stir. Heat again for 30 seconds, or until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Place Rice Chex cereal in a large bowl. Gently pour the warm chocolate-peanut-butter mixture over the cereal and fold carefully until evenly coated.
- Transfer coated cereal into a large Ziploc bag or lidded bowl. Add powdered sugar, seal, and shake until cereal is fully coated.
- Spread mixture on parchment or wax paper. Let sit at room temperature until chocolate firms and puppy chow is dry to the touch.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. Refrigerate if your kitchen runs warm.
Notes
Layer powdered sugar in two stages if needed for even coating. Stir cereal gently to avoid breaking. Let cool completely before storing to avoid sogginess. To make dairy-free or nut-free, use plant-based butter, dairy-free chocolate chips, or sunflower seed butter. For a peppermint twist, add ½ tsp peppermint extract to the chocolate mixture.
